As I push in a different stylistic direction, I felt it would be useful to do a few redesign sketches of old characters, despite there being little opportunity to work on Universe Machine any time soon.

Martok character sketches
I think I've settled on a mini-comic concept, a kind of goofy comedy/fantasy story about Martok, the barbarian. The volumes and articulation of the full body sketch are kind of jacked, but I think I'm pretty happy with the overall shape design. Going to be referencing those ancient French cave paintings for the overall mood and aesthetic of the book - so black and white, or sepia, loose shape based figures, not a lot of dynamic depth perception in the shots, etc.
It's a stylistic choice and not a cop-out excuse to get lazy, I swear!

Character design assignment, rendered
I feel like it's a little over-rendered, and I didn't get to experiment with paint textures as much as I would've liked, just because I wanted to get this done to make way for other projects. Still, pretty fun, and I'm satisfied with the result.

Who is this scummy dude? #characterdesign #sketch #cartoon
Short term illustration project for this week. Super rough character designs based on written description. I won't post the actual verbiage because I'm pretty sure it's licensed content, so YOU tell ME : what, when and where this guy is.
I wanted to do some more variations tonight (and a little more Motorcade work), but I got some reading to get done before I pass out.
